Abstract

Moving the capital to East Kalimantan is a momentum for small micro industry players to boost business performance in the buffer zone of the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN). The operational performance, management performance and support performance gaps between large enterprises and small micro industry are due to gaps in technology adoption, digital literacy and digital experience of business actors. Community-based cluster development can minimize weaknesses, especially in the area of technology use and information systems. This study looks at the effect of digital experience on business performance with digital literacy as a mediating variable. The study takes the sample of micro and small industries in Balikpapan City as one of the buffer cities of IKN. This study was conducted with a multivariate analysis of the Structural Equation Model (SEM) WarpPLS approach. Research subjects were 80 business owners in the Somber Small Industry Center. Originality of this research lies in the addition of new variables of digital literacy as a mediator, its influence on business performance. Hypothesis testing results show that digital experience and digital literacy partially have a direct and significant effect on business performance. Digital literacy significantly mediates the relationship between digital experience and business performance of micro and small businesses in Balikapapan City. Implications of this research show that micro and small industry players who are able to provide digital services and have good social interaction skills in the digital world can improve information literacy and collaboration with customers in digital services. Online interaction and collaboration improve business performance such as facilitating teamwork in terms of customer order fulfillment, improving customer service and work management.
