Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the third-largest disease that causes death worldwide, with 3.23 million deaths in 2019. As many as 80% of these deaths from COPD occur in low- and middle-income countries. COPD is usually characterized by difficulty breathing and coughing accompanied by phlegm. COPD is a progressive disease that cannot be cured and will get worse over time. One way that is commonly used by doctors to diagnose lung conditions is to use a stethoscope. This method is commonly referred to by the name of auscultation. This technique of diagnosis using auscultation has disadvantages where the results of the diagnosis depend on the sensitivity of the ear and the expertise of the doctor who did the diagnosis. So, the proposed solution to this problem is to create a COPD identification system to diagnose COPD so that COPD can be known early and can be given early treatment to inhibit worsening of lung conditions. The system also uses an artificial intelligence system so that the diagnosis process is faster, precise, and consistent so that it does not depend on the sensitivity of the ear and the doctor's expertise. This system works by detecting whether the sound of the lungs is COPD infected or healthy. The output of this system is a visualization of the sound of the lungs captured by the stethoscope and the diagnosis of the lung condition displayed in real-time. Based on the tests that have been done, the accuracy rate obtained by the system is 93.35% with a computational time of 3.116 s.
